July MG Spotlight- Sarah Nixon

Sarah lives on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Her missionary is Elder Christian Espino, serving in the Auckland New Zealand Mission. He gets home January 6th 2013  yay!

We asked her what was one experience so far waiting that has made her grow closer to her heavenly father. She said:
Wow this is a tough one, I would have to say it was Christian's experience that he had prior to his mission. He was telling me a story of how he was giving a teaching to a man he had only just met. He shared with me his experience with this man, and he said that the man started to cry during the lesson. Christian told me that seeing that man cry because he could feel the spirit of God made him sure that going on a mission was the right choice for him, and when he made that realisation he started to cry also. A week later he was baptising this man, and receiving immense thanks for "saving his life".

What blessings have you seen come from waiting?:
Blessings, I am not sure! I think that when Christian gets home, he will be my blessing. I think that doing something truly remarkable for another person (such as waiting for our missionaries) not only make us better people and stronger people, but it also makes us wiser and more aware of how important the people in our lives are. I know that every MG now appreciates their missionaries so much more now, and that is a blessing in itself.

What is your favorite scripture:
As I am not a Mormon I don't know the scriptures, but I do have a favourite prayer. I am sure a lot of people know it, it is called the Serenity prayer. And if you don't know it, here it is;
God, light of my life, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Do you have any special talents we should know about?
Special talents? Hmm I am afraid not! Maybe my talent is patience?

(patience is a good talent! haha)

What advice do you wanna give to other girls?:
My advice to other girls waiting for a missionary is to never jump to conclusions, especially if they are not writing or emailing as often as you would like. It can be very hard if you have not heard from them for a while, and I know it may seem as if they no longer have feelings for you. But about 99.9% of time, it is only because they are so incredibly busy! I for one have not received a letter in almost 6 months now, and missionaries in Auckland are not permitted to email anyone but family members. But despite this, you have to remember how much your missionary cares for you, and mainly DO NOT make this influence what you write in your letters! Letting you emotions get the best of you when you are angry or feeling hurt will not help your missionary.

Tell us more about you!:
Something about me! Well I am currently studying Urban and Environmental Planning at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. I am in my 4th year (almost) and that is where I met Christian! And now I could not imagine my life without him! So I live with my Dad and my older Sister, and my two gorgeous cats Lacey and Lola. If anyone is wondering where the "Snowflake" part of my name came from, it was a nickname given to me by a friend, and now Christian (or Christo) calls me his Snowflake, so I stuck with it!

Hey girls!

So we are just getting this page started. So excuse the craziness/mess. Forgive us??

Question, what do YOU as an MG, wanna see on this page? We are open to suggestions! :)

May MG Spotlight: Bryton Auker

Bryton is 19 years Young and lives in Elkhart, Indiana! Her missionary is Elder Ron Mann, and is serving in the Idaho, Pocatello Mission! He gets home in November 2013. (which she says isn't soon enough! haha)

Q. What is an experience on this journey that has brought you closer to your Heavenly Father so far?
A.
That is such a hard choice! But one overwhelming choice is the day that I actually got asked to be baptized. I am a convert to the church, so this experience happened less than a year ago! My missionary introduced me to the church when we first started dating our freshman year of high school. I never really wanted anything to do with the church then, but as he began to prepare to leave for his mission our senior year, I just wanted to know more about the church, and was looking for some spiritual guidance in my life. It was a Sunday that Ron introduced me to missionaries, and we set up an appointment to meet the following Monday. One of the missionaries gave me the gospel principles book just to use in church the next week. I don' think he or I ever intended for it to be pretty much the base of my conversion. I read the whole book by the next day. The missionaries were so surprised (and honestly, so was I!). We met that Monday, Tuesday, and by Wednesday, they asked me to be baptized the following weekend. When they asked me, my first sudden reaction was "What the heck are you thinking!? ME? Baptized in a week and a half!?" But then, this amazing, overwhelming feeling of "Bryton, you can do it. Why are you so worried? You are a valiant soul!" came over me. When I was truly in tune with the spirit, I have never felt so loved in my life. Heavenly Father's love is so strong, and it is unmistakable.

Q. What blessings have you received from waiting?
A. I have been blessed in so many ways that I cannot even list them all! But some main ones are the fact that I have been able to grow spiritually beyond recognition! I have been able to gain my own testimony of the church. It has been wonderful to be able to know that my missionary and I are have the ability to grow together, but also apart as individuals (we are much better together if I do say so myself though!) so that we may one day be stronger than ever together

Q.Your favorite scripture?
A. Without a doubt, Alma 32:21!

Q.Do you have any special talents you want to share?

A. I used to do competitive club gymnastics! I was a level 9 for any of who know what that means!

Q.Any advice for other girls?

A. My very strongest advice is to have patience and understanding with your boys. When my missionary first left, I would get so frustrated if he did not write, or his letter wasn't long enough, or whatever the case may have been. But something that I came to learn is that you have to see it from their side. Your missionary is not on your time, but on Heavenly Fathers. As much as we want them to be thinking of us ALL the time, they should be thinking of their investigators! One quote that I found that made me just fuzzy inside was "the definition of a missionary" which says "a missionary - someone who leaves their family for a short time, so others can be with theirs for eternity." Being a convert, those missionaries who introduce you to the gospel mean the world to you! Everyone should have the opportunity to be with their families forever. No one should be deprived of that. So if he doesn't write you a letter, maybe he was studying something for an investigator that might be the turning point of their conversion. Or maybe he was reading a talk or in the Book of Mormon that will make him a better husband or father some day. You never know, but be understanding, and do not assume that he is just ignoring you.

A little more about Bryton:

Well, my name is Bryton (like the country!). I did my first year of college at Ball State University, but I am transferring to BYU-Idaho for my last years. I am studying human biology and french. I want nothing more than to have a bilingual family, so I absolutely love french. I want to go to chiropractic school after I graduate from BYU-I. I am a convert to the church, and no one else in my family is members. I am pretty much love being optimistic about everything. I also love people watching, painting, being creative in general, doing gymnastics, and being flippin' spontaneous. I guess that's me in a nutshell, but just so you are well aware...I am like a box of chocolates (even though I don't like chocolate!), you never know what you are going to get!

Bryton Is such a fun girl to have on the group. She is always interacting, and talking with us. She is so fun, and always so sweet. We are so happy to have her! :)

Thanks for letting us get to know you Bryton! We all love you!

May MG Spotlight: Brooke Martinos

Brooke's missionary's name is Elder Ethan Hallows, he is serving in the Kennewick, Washington Mission, and he will be home March 14, 2014. She live's in Midway, Utah. But will be moving within the week to Cape Canaveral, Florida just for the summer and then will be back up at Logan, Utah for college.

Q. What is an experience on this journey that has brought you closer to your Heavenly Father so far?
A.Hmm I think an experience I had was I prayed to know that what I was doing was right to be waiting and I just got an overwhelming feeling that it was and that he would be my husband which was an amazing feeling that I hadn't felt before. And I realized Heavenly Father really does listen to me and care about what I want in life!!

Q. What blessings have you received from waiting?
A. I've been blessed with comfort and the knowledge of knowing what I'm doing is right and what I need to be doing in my life!

Q.Your favorite scripture?
A.My favorite scripture is Alma 13:28

Q.Do you have any special talents you want to share?
A.I love to sing!

Q.Any advice for other girls?
A.Hmm I'm not sure I have any advice besides just be patient. That's my biggest thing i tell myself everyday to just be patient!

A little bit more about Brooke:
well I'm 19 and so is Ethan. Lived in Utah for about 7 years now and he has lived in Utah his whole live. I met my missionary in high school, we were both Sophomores. I did the boys basketball stats and he was on the team. To be honest I never really thought about him because he was in the "popular" group and I was not ha! He said he always had his eye on me and one day he got my number from a friend of his who I was kinda interested in. He texted me and I was just so excited. I thought he was so cute and sweet and couldn't believe a guy like him was interested In a girl like me! Ha we started hanging out and getting to know each other and it was all moving so quickly! We dated for 7 months when I thought i needed a change and to date new people (big mistake on my part). We ended up not talking for a year until I decided one day over Spring Break Junior year to drive by his house. Well sure enough he was there and completely saw me drive by ha! I thought I needed to text him and we began to talk again. We have been dating ever since and all together we've been together a little over 2 years but been best friends for 4 years. Best 4 years of my life!! He is the best decision I ever made!! Ive hurt him in the past and I regret that so much but now that I have him again I'm not letting him go!! He's mine forever!!:)

I think it's safe to say we all love Brooke! She is such a blessing to have on the group. She is always so kind to everyone! And she is BEAUTIFUL!
We love you Brooke! Thanks for letting us get to know you a little better! :)

"These two years will be but a memory soon!" - Britni

Okay, so I FINALLY have somewhat of a story for you girls.
So if you don't already know Chris and I have had a very rocky relationship and since he got home Wednesday I had yet to hear from him. So of course I thought the worst.
I was close to throwing in the towel yet again. Thankfully, Candice and Kendahl saved me. They told me to just hang in there.
Well long story short Chris and I Skype today for the last three hours. I am so happy I waited it out and didn't give up he is so different, yet exactly the way I remembered him. And that Skype really reminded me of why I waited these years an why I fell in love with him in the first place. I will finally see the man of my dreams in 13 days.
I couldn't be happier and Candice, Jeni, and Kendahl really are my life savors. If it wasn't for these girls I would have given up a long time ago. The wait is worth it girls, and it will be over so fast. These two years will be but a memory so soon. Don't give up and don't lose hope. You will all have your prince I promise. Really build friendships with these girls they are so amazing and you all will really find friendships that couldn't be stronger.
I love you all! Just know they come home. STAY STRONG! ♥♥♥
